The Universities at Shady Grove’s (USG) operations are currently modified to protect the health and safety of students, faculty and staff, given the continued challenges with COVID-19. At this time, most services and courses are being provided remotely or online. Access to campus buildings is restricted to essential personnel and those who require the use of specialized laboratories for courses on campus. Please visit the USG Onward web page for additional details.

Featured Opportunity for 2021 - "Smart City Challenge"

Students, register now for the "Smart City Challenge 2021"! Join us for this virtual innovation competition launching Saturday, January 23 and work as a part of a team to identify a problem and develop innovative solutions to equity challenges in the greater Washington area. Diverse, wide-ranging teams will address challenges in a variety of sectors including housing, transportation, health, water, broadband, education, infrastructure, public safety, and more.

Participation in this event will provide students with a once in a lifetime team-based experience, opportunities to develop critical skills sought by employers, and opportunities to learn from and gain exposure to many high profile companies in our region. Employer partners/sponsors of the "Challenge" include Clark Construction, Amazon Web Services, Cox Business, MITRE, Dominion Energy, ABS Capital Partners, and many more. USG is also a proud sponsor of this event.  More than $350,000 in cash and in-kind prizes will be awarded!

Students may register as individuals or with others they choose as a part of a team. Individual registrants will be invited to a "networking event" at the beginning of the Challenge in order to identify a problem to address and form a team for the competition.  Students can learn more and register by linking here https://buff.ly/3qVZipm.
