The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) is the state's public academic health and law university devoted to professional and graduate education, patient care, and public service. UMB educates leaders in health care delivery, biomedical science, social services, and law. The campus is comprised of sixprofessional schools and an interdisciplinary graduate school that educates students in dentistry, law, medicine, nursing, pharmacy, and social work. The University of Maryland School of Nursing (UMSON) was established in 1889 by Louisa Parsons, a student of Florence Nightingale’s training school for nurses in London, and is ranked among the top 10 nursing schools in the nation by U.S. News and World Report. UMSON has baccalaureate, master’s, and doctoral programs, including Maryland’s only master’s specialty in nurse anesthesia.
