Facilities maintains the physical environment on the Universities at Shady Grove campus in support of USG's mission to expand pathways to affordable, high-quality public higher education. Facilities works behind the scenes to coordinate campus planning, maintain and operate building grounds, manage the allocation of campus space, and to ensure environmental health and safety and public safety. The Facilities Department is comprised of five speciality areas:
Facilities Planning
The Facilities Planning team supports the growth of the campus and its built environment by collaborating on the administration and design of capital projects, leading improvement projects, and managing the Facilities Renewal Program.
Facilities Management
The Facilities Management team is dedicated to maintaining a clean, safe and positive campus environment for students, staff, faculty and visitors who use our grounds, buildings and auxiliary services. The campus community may initiate a facilities request by visiting the Facilities Work Request Website.
Space Management
The ability to manage existing space and plan strategically for new space is an essential operational function. To that end, the Office of Space Management will ensure the efficient and equitable allocation and use of space on campus, ensuring all allocations meet USG’s mission, goals, and objectives.
Environmental Health and Safety
The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) mission is about safety, education, and service for the Universities at Shady Grove community. The EHS Unit supports laboratory safety, occupational safety, environmental compliance and hazardous waste management on the USG campus.
Public Safety
The Public Safety office staffs the security desks in Buildings III and IV and routinely patrols all buildings, grounds and parking areas. They also provide support in a number of other areas including the CCTV camera system, the Behavioral Assessment Team, key and access requests, emergency preparedness, and the emergency alert system.
