The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Unit is about safety, education, and service for the Universities at Shady Grove community. We strive to protect human health and the environment by providing exceptional safety services in partnership with students, faculty, and staff. At the same time, we nurture a sustainable safety culture that fosters an environment of learning, innovation, and discovery.
The EHS Unit assists campus in meeting standard of care and regulatory requirements with respect to laboratory safety, occupational safety, hazardous waste management and environmental compliance. The EHS Unit maintains various health and safety plans, environmental plans and permits, and inspection/investigation documentation. We also provide EHS education and training to support safe practices and environmental protection on campus.
