Join the USG Connects Career Consultant program to have the opportunity to connect with local business leaders and learn from their professional experience. USG Connects Career Consultants are giving their time to provide meaningful career guidance and support for students graduating from programs at USG.
USG CONNECTS STUDENT APPLICATION
Career Consultants are members of the USG Board of Advisors and other professionals in Montgomery County, MD who have volunteered to provide career guidance in various ways including: Information Interviews, Career Consulting, Virtual Mock Interviews, and Creating Networking Connections in the career industry of your choice. This program provides the opportunity to connect with a career industry professional that matches your academic program and life goals.
Students may engage in just one consultation in a semester or take the opportunity for two or more sessions during a semester.
USG CONNECTS STUDENT ORIENTATION
Steps to engage and benefit:
- Register by completing the USG Connects Student Application. Your application materials will allow us to match you with a USG Connects Career Consultant.
- USG staff will identify the best possible student and professional match for the requested consultation. Both the student and professional will be notified when a match is made.
- Student is asked to reach out to connect with their USG Connects Career Consultant to set up an appointment. Engage and learn!
Students may request consulting sessions for the following:
Informational Interviews – The purpose of this interview is for Career Consultant to share valuable insight into industry opportunities, industry trends, and general career advice with students. This interview also allows students to learn about their consultant’s background, professional roles, and experience in the sector.
INFORMATIONAL INTERVIEWING STUDENT GUIDE
Career Consulting – The Career Consultant will utilize their expertise to give the student career-related guidance regarding their designated industry of choice. Specific areas for advice may include industry-specific career pathways, industry trends, and internship or job search strategies.
CAREER CONSULTING STUDENT GUIDE
Virtual Mock Interviews – Consultant and student will engage in virtual “practice” interviews to help students refine their interviewing skills.
VIRTUAL MOCK INTERVIEWING STUDENT GUIDE
Creating Connections – Engagement with a Career Consultant to assist a student in expanding professional networks through personal introductions with professionals in the designated industry, identification of professional organizations or affinity groups to join, or identification of networking events. Creating connections is a means to “open doors” that lead to opportunities for career exploration, internships, or even employment.
