Green Committee Honors José Colorado

The USG Green Committee recently honored José Colorado of Capitol Maintenance with the Steve Purcell Sustainability award.  The award was presented by Lindsi Baltz, Program Director for UMCP Communications and Stewart Edelstein, Executive Director of USG. Dr. Edelstein noted that Jose was chosen for his meticulous care of the USG garden, for riding his bike to and from work every day, and for sorting the recycling after each catering event.  As one Jose’s colleagues aptly stated:  “Sustainability is everyone’s job and José is a great role model to all of us at USG.”  As part of this recognition, Jose received a plaque and a membership in a local CSA (Community Shared Agriculture).

The award program was initiated this year in an effort to recognize those who go “above and beyond” in the area of sustainability.  A student award program will be put into place in the fall semester.  The program is named in honor of Steve Purcell, a founding member of the Green Committee.
