This position is located in Rockville, MD at The Universities at Shady Grove (USG).

Reporting to the Chief Financial & Operating Officer, the Director, Finance and Operations will lead the planning, development, implementation and administration of budget, financial, business and grant award operations for The Universities at Shady Grove (USG). This position directs all related long-range strategic planning, operations, and administrative activities for USG, and serves as subject matter expert for the USG community regarding all financial matters. As primary advisor to the Chief Financial and Operating Officer, the Director is responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of USG’s operating budget, auxiliaries and other funds; grants and contracts administration; and leading the strategic budget development process. The Director will make recommendations and decisions regarding all financial areas, engaging in communications with the University of Maryland, College Park, the University System of Maryland, the Board of Regents and the State.

The Director will analyze the effectiveness of current initiatives and establish future strategic direction, and translate strategic and tactical business initiatives into operational plans. Will guide the efficient, effective and strategic allocation of resources, in alignment with priorities and programs; including the development and streamlining of administrative processes guiding day to day operations and services for all financial related activities. This position manages budget, accounting, grant, and auxiliary services staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

Education:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience:

  • 10 years of progressive experience in budget and financial management, including at least 2 years of experience in grants management; 4 years of supervisory experience. Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Experience working within accounting or other project-specific software systems for the purpose of financial reporting. Enterprise Resource Planning tools such as Workday, Ellucian Banner, and Kuali Financial or similar.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of contract and grant administration and funding agencies financial reporting processes and requirements
  • Written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledgeable regarding federal grant regulations and changes to regulations, developing and revising federal grant policies to ensure system practices and policies are compliant
  • Technically proficient

PREFERENCES:

  • Master’s degree in accounting, finance, business, public administration, or related field
  • Project management experience
