I first heard about the Universities at Shady Grove (USG) when I was attending Montgomery College (MC) from my current academic advisor who I met at a recruitment event for the University of Maryland, College Park’s Communication program at USG .

Going into MC, I did not know what I wanted to major in until I took an Introduction to Communication class as a graduation requirement. It was after taking that course that I realized the field of communication was where I wanted to be. I later found out that the University of Maryland, College Park offered their Communication program on the USG campus. I was especially drawn to the smaller class sizes at USG compared to the large lecture halls found on  the main campus in College Park. I knew from my time at MC that these smaller class sizes would be a great benefit to my education and overall college experience because it would allow me to get to know my classmates and professors — in a giant lecture hall full of a hundred other students, that would not have been the case.

At USG, I currently serve as the president of the Undergraduate Communication Association (UCA), an organization that represents students in my program. The UCA creates and organizes events for students such as professional workshops, game nights, movie/photography showcases, and more! In addition to these events, we also partner with local organizations, such as Manna Food, for our ongoing semester food drive, and small businesses such as PrimeTime Sports, who create frames for our diploma frame fundraiser.

I’ve also had the wonderful opportunity of interning at the Center for Student Engagement and Financial Resources at USG, where I helped promote numerous events via flyers and social media outreach, as well as assisting with the monthly LGBTQ+ newsletter!

I anticipate graduating in May of 2022 and upon graduation, I hope to start a career in public relations. I am also planning on continuing my education after earning my bachelor’s degree, and am currently exploring all of the options!
