I first heard about the Universities at Shady Grove (USG) from my brother when he attended the University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP) Robert H. Smith School of Business at USG. When he was here, the Information Science program was not yet offered on USG's campus.

In my last year at Montgomery College (MC), I spoke to my counselor regarding transferring to the Information Science program at UMCP. She informed me that the program would be starting at USG the semester I would be transferring. Of course, this information made my decision a no brainer. I could attend classes at USG instead of driving all the way to College Park. My experience with a convenient commute, small class sizes and great professors are proof that I made the right choice! I was lucky enough to finish MC at the right time so I could be part of UMCP Information Science program at USG.

Right before my classes my started, I learned that I could apply for scholarships at UMCP as well as USG, potentially doubling my scholarships and helping me finance my education. I was ecstatic to find out that I had been offered the Kendall Scholarship at USG, which has allowed me to focus on my classes and not worry about how to pay for school.

At USG, there are many different clubs and organizations students can participate in. However, since I am part of the first class of the Information Science program, there weren’t any clubs or organizations in this field. This led to me starting the Information Science Society. USG’s Center for Student Resources and Financial Engagement (CSEF) was very helpful in directing me on how to start my club and in the steps towards a successful club.

After I graduate with a B.S. in Information Science specializing in Data Science, I plan to start my career in data science-related fields. I hope I am able to give back to the USG community as the USG community has given so much to me.
