Upon looking into returning to Montgomery College (MC) for my Associate's, I learned about the Universities at Shady Grove (USG).  A counselor at MC referred me to the Social Work program director, Katie Morris with the UMBC.  Professor Morris reviewed my unofficial transcript for me to have a clear understanding on what classes I needed to take and complete for me to efficiently transfer to UMBC at USG.

As a working mother, USG has allowed me to continue my education as I double major in Social Work and Psychology at UMBC.  USG offers a full-service campus, which includes support services such as the Center for Academic Success (CAS). The writing center within CAS has helped me organize, plan, and develop strategies to improve my writing skills.  I also take advantage of studying in the state-of-the-art Priddy Library.

My time at UMBC at USG has truly helped me prepare for a career, as I have been able to integrate the curriculum’s theory-based skills and apply them into my field placement.  At USG, my classes are smaller which enables me to connect to my colleagues and community on a deeper level.  The convenient location of USG has also given me the opportunity to continue my education and achieve my career goals while juggling my responsibilities.

The social work profession empowers a broad range of client populations and enables hands on work which fuels my purpose and drive.  After I earn my Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and Psychology, I hope to continue my education earning my Master’s degree at the University of Maryland School of Social Work at USG.
