This week, April 13-19, 2025, the Universities at Shady Grove (USG) community is participating in the Maryland Climate Teach-In, an annual week of events to promote climate change education and to empower people to take action. The Teach-In is part of USG Facilities and Planning division’s larger strategy to create storytelling around our sustainability goals and requirements under the Maryland Climate Solutions Now Act.
Nearly all of the University System of Maryland Institutions will be participating in the Climate Teach-In on their home campuses. Academic partner faculty and staff who work on the USG campus will provide their expertise through informative presentations about climate change and how it impacts their respective fields. The University of Maryland School of Nursing, the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy, the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) Social Work program, and the University of Maryland,College Park (UMCP) Cyber Physical Systems Engineering (CPSE) program will be represented in the speaker series.
We will also hold, in partnership with our campus neighbors the Institute for Bioscience and Biotechnology Research (IBBR), a campus clean-up on Wednesday, April 16 from 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. The clean-up has been a long-standing Earth Day tradition between USG and IBBR, which grows in popularity each year as faculty, staff and students lend a helping hand to pick up litter across campus and in the surrounding wetlands. Keep your eyes on the USG Instagram, Facebook and X pages for promotional videos for the clean-up developed by students in the UMCP Communication program at USG!
Students, faculty, staff and community members are welcome to participate in any of the Climate Teach-In events.
