I first learned about Universities at Shady Grove (USG) during my junior year at Montgomery Blair High School in 2016. This introduction to the campus came through my involvement in the Achieving Collegiate Excellence and Success (ACES) program, which organized a field trip to the USG campus. I distinctly remember being struck by the serene, green atmosphere and the convenience of a local campus, making me aspire to study there one day.

My journey to USG began when I enrolled at Montgomery College (MC) in Rockville, Maryland after graduating from high school. With guidance from my dedicated ACES coach, I earned my Associate of Arts degree in Business. However, while at MC, I was still uncertain about my career path. I wanted to be involved in marketing, but I sought a hands-on role in creating content, web design, and digital media. During my time at MC, I learned about the exceptional Communication program offered by the University of Maryland, College Park (UMD) at USG

The Communication program stood out because of its versatility and breadth. It encompassed UX/UI design, film production, and various digital media skills aligning perfectly with my goals. This turning point solidified my decision to pursue a Bachelor's degree from UMD in Communication at USG.

Upon arriving at USG, I wasted no time getting involved and finding my place within the campus community. My journey started as a USG Ambassador, allowing me to share the beauty and advantages of our campus with prospective students, families and stakeholders. I eventually took on the Chair for Social Media role within the Ambassador program, enhancing my skills in social media management.

I was also honored to serve as the President of the Undergraduate Communication Association (UCA) at USG. The UCA represents students within the Communication program, and during my tenure, we embarked on several exciting initiatives. We collaborated with a local small business, PrimeTime Sports Collectibles, to create a fundraiser website, streamlining the process for students to purchase diploma frames. We also organized professional workshops and engaging events in collaboration with various campus organizations, fostering a vibrant and inclusive community at USG.

Additionally, I was a member of the USG Student Council, where I actively participated in USG’s Business Enterprise Hub to identify and provide resources that benefit fellow students in the business field. I also worked to help fellow students access valuable resources and learn about the opportunities available on our campus, in particular those offered in the Macklin Center for Leadership and Communication.

My career goals post-graduation are firmly rooted in Graphic and Web design. My journey from high school to USG has been filled with growth, involvement, and an unwavering commitment to making the most of my academic experience.
