TTP Biological Sciences Admission Requirements for MC and FCC students

The University of Maryland, College Park (UMD) B.S. in Biological Sciences degree offered at The Universities at Shady Grove (USG) is ideal for students who are dedicated to studying the life sciences and are prepared for rigorous coursework but also want the benefit of small class sizes and personal attention. With comprehensive coursework, challenging lab activities, and hands-on applications in this undergraduate program leading to a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences, students prepare for higher studies in specialized fields such as medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, optometry, and public health.

The Terp Transfer Partnership (TTP) program is a Transfer Access Program (TAP) designed to benefit Montgomery College and Frederick Community College students who plan to transfer to the UMD Biological Sciences program offered at USG.

The TTP program for Biological Sciences will help you prepare for all aspects of the transfer process including:

  • Priority advising with UMD program representatives
    • Pre-transfer advising to ensure that you are taking the correct classes at MC or FCC
    • Early academic advising on UMD program requirements
  • Early access to USG student services, supporting TTP students in the following Transfer Readiness Zones:

What are the requirements to be considered for TTP?

Students who meet the TTP application requirements for the TTP program for Biological Sciences should be able to answer yes to the following questions:

  • Am I attending MC next semester (fall or spring)? 
  • Have I completed (with a "C" or better) or registered for both of the classes listed below?
    • BIOL 150: Principles of Biology I
    • CHEM 131: Principles of Chemistry I

If you answered yes to both questions above, please utilize these TTP application directions to complete the TTP application!

What are the requirements to successfully complete TTP?

After participants are admitted to TTP, in order to successfully complete the Terp Transfer Partnership for Biological Sciences, participants must meet the following requirements.   All requirements must be fulfilled while attending Montgomery College.

  • Academic Requirements
    • Earn an Associate’s Degree from MC (A.S. Life Science recommended)
    • Graduate from MC with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA from all previous institutions
    • Earn a C- or better in the following MC courses:
      • BIOL 150: Principles of Biology I
      • BIOL 151: Principles of Biology II
      • BIOL 222: Principles of Genetics
      • BIOL 210: Microbiology
      • CHEM 131: Principles of Chemistry I
      • CHEM 132: Principles of Chemistry II
      • CHEM 203: Organic Chemistry I
      • CHEM 204: Organic Chemistry II
      • Calculus (take one set of courses)
        • MATH 181: Calculus I   and     MATH 182: Calculus II
          OR
        • MATH 170 Calculus for Life Sciences I   and     MATH 171 Calculus for Life Sciences II
      • ENGL102: Techniques of Reading and Writing II
  • Additional Requirements
    • Participate in the Terp Transfer Partnership Welcome Activities
      • Transfer Access Welcome Module
      • Transfer Access Welcome Celebration (virtual during the pandemic, at USG once in-person events resume)
    • Meet with the UMD Biological Sciences Program Director or representative at least once per semester
    • Attend a minimum of three events/activities (one in each Transfer Readiness Zone) before you transfer
      • Academic Readiness (at least one event/activity) 
      • Career Readiness (at least one event/activity) 
      • Personal Success (at least one event/activity) 
    • Submit UMD Coalition application for the Biological Sciences program at USG

Students wishing to be considered for the TTP program for Biological Sciences should be able to answer yes to the following questions:

  • Am I attending FCC next semester (fall or spring)? 
  • Have I completed (with a "C" or better) or registered for both of the classes listed below?
    • CHEM 101 General Chemistry I
    • BSCI 150 Principles of Biology I

      • BSCI 240: Genetics
      • BSCI 263: Elements of Microbiology OR   BSCI 223: Microbiology for Allied Health
      • CHEM 101: General Chemistry I
      • CHEM 102: General Chemistry II
      • CHEM 201: Organic Chemistry I
      • CHEM 202: Organic Chemistry II
      • MATH 185: Calculus I
      • MATH 195: Calculus II
      • ENGL 101: English Composition
