As someone who grew up in the vibrant culture of India, I never imagined that my journey would lead me to the Universities at Shady Grove (USG) in Montgomery County, Maryland. It all started when I discovered USG’s website while browsing my university’s website for advanced level degrees. I was immediately intrigued by the idea of a campus where students from nine different universities come together to learn and grow on a single, collaborative campus.
After completing my bachelor's and postgraduate studies in India, I knew I wanted to take the next step in my academic journey, and USG offered exactly what I was looking for. The University of Maryland, Baltimore County’s (UMBC) Master of Professional Studies in Biotechnology offered at USG was a perfect fit, and the idea of learning alongside a diverse group of peers made the opportunity even more exciting.
At USG, my experience has gone far beyond just academics. I’ve joined clubs, participated in campus activities, and made connections that have shaped me both personally and professionally. The community here is extremely supportive, and it’s been incredible to share this journey with others who are just as passionate about their fields as I am.
One of the most rewarding parts of my time at USG was an internship I had at IDT Biologika, where I worked part-time as an analytical development intern. This hands-on experience gave me a real-world understanding of the biotech industry, allowing me to apply what I’ve learned in class to meaningful projects. It’s been a pivotal step in preparing me for the next phase of my career.
As of May 2024, I am proud to have graduated and excited about what’s ahead. My goal is to begin my career with a biotech firm where I can continue to grow and refine my skills. Long-term, I hope to pursue a Ph.D. and contribute to groundbreaking research in biotechnology, making a positive impact on the world through science.
USG has been an incredible part of my journey, giving me the foundation I need to take on these challenges and turn my aspirations into reality.
