Hello, My name is Tyissha Walters and I recently graduated with a B.A in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Maryland, College Park at the Universities at Shady Grove (USG). I can honestly say that this campus has enhanced my life on many levels. It has increased my skills, heightened my productivity and strengthened my beliefs and values. I heard of USG through a close friend who was already attending a program here. After hearing her talk about the campus I knew that USG was the place for me. The student to professor ratio was appealing in addition to the career opportunities available to both current students and alumni.

Looking back on the moment I chose USG, I can say with no regret it was the best life decision I have made. During my academic journey at USG I have been an officer in two clubs, CRIMSA, and Student Event Board. I enjoy working in student leadership roles because this is where I can execute plans and events that I am passionate about such as spreading awareness on violent crimes and sexual assault.

I aspire to become a Victim Advocate where I can utilize my research, emotional intelligence, compassionate communication and analytical skills to protect victims of various violent crimes in a nonprofit organization while continuing my education in graduate school to obtain a degree in Counseling Psychology. I would then like to further my career by working for victims on a federal platform in Homeland Security. Thanks to the hardworking and supportive advisors and staff, my career goals have become refined. I will forever be thankful and grateful for the high-quality experience at USG.
