After being a part of child development course at Paint Branch High School, I decided I wanted to become an educator. I attended my first two years at Montgomery College, and then transferred into the Towson University Elementary Education and Special Education program at The Universities at Shady Grove (USG). The transferring process was smooth and super easy. The communication between incoming students and Towson coordinators was amazing, and they continue to be available for me whenever I need their help.

The reasons I elected to attend Towson at USG was because I could stay close to home, have time for work, and best of all this program offered a cohort experience! Being part of a cohort is an amazing experience. It offers another support group aside from my family and friends. Not to mention the one-on-one dedication our cohort receives from individual professors.

My favorite part about this program is that our professors are a part of Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS). They are approachable and make time to meet with me one-on-one.

USG is helping me prepare for my career by offering experiential learning outside the classroom as well. I am learning leadership skills as the Towson Representative on the UGS Student Council, I actively participate in the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC), and part of the curriculum includes various internships within MCPS.

Best of all, there are additional scholarship opportunities at USG! Not only was I able to receive scholarships from my main campus, but I also received scholarships from USG. This has really helped me by allowing me to focus on my studies and internships.

USG is preparing me to become the best educator I can be. With this program, I feel prepared to teach in my own classroom thanks to the hands-on experience I am receiving. USG has created a clear path for me to follow which leads to accomplishing my career goal.
