Kaiser Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic States Commits Grant To Support Workforce Development in Health Care Field
The Universities at Shady Grove (USG) has received a $200,000 grant from Kaiser Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic States for students at USG seeking healthcare-related degrees.
“The Kaiser Permanente grant will fund the education of USG scholars seeking careers in nursing, respiratory therapy, public health science, health systems management, and other undergraduate healthcare-related degree programs,” said Stewart Edelstein, Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, University System of Maryland and Executive Director at USG. “We sincerely thank Kaiser Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic States for recognizing USG as a critical partner to ensure our region meets the future workforce needs in the healthcare sector.”
The donation will directly support the need for additional healthcare workers in the region through the University System of Maryland campus. An estimated 77,700 new jobs will be required in healthcare and social services over the next decade in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. .

The donation is another example of a strategic partnership established between the business community and USG with 80 students anticipated to receive scholarships during the 2011-2012 academic year.
