On Wednesday, March 29, 2017, the Universities at Shady Grove, Montgmery College (MC), and Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) hosted the first Young Educators Symposium (Say YES to Teaching!). This all day symposium welcomed 160 high school students from eighteen Montgomery County Public School’s Child Development programs. The students heard from prominent MCPS staff and faculty and had the opportunity to learn about the teaching profession and opportunities for education and careers in Montgomery County. Students participated in breakout sessions led by mostly MCPS staff and administrators.
Students had the opportunity to learn how to stand out in an interview, non-traditional educational careers, and learned about the MC-to-USG pathway. Towson University students and USG ambassadors helped guide the MCPS students to their breakout sessions and chatted with MCPS students about their college experiences. This event was an amazing opportunity for MCPS students to see how the path they have already begun can continue. Check out the MCPS website to learn more about this event.
