The Universities at Shady Grove is showing appreciation for Women’s History Month this March with a photo contest featuring the women in our lives who demonstrate character, courage and commitment. The women who raised us, the women who teach us, the women who love us – the women who matter to us.

The Contest: Celebrating Women of Character, Courage, and Commitment

Submit a digital photograph of a woman you know, love, respect (or all of the above!) who demonstrates character, courage and commitment to be displayed in an album on our USG Facebook page. Use your creativity and capture the spirit of a woman, or the women, that make your world a better place through these three qualities. Submissions can and may include:

-Elegant portraits or creative abstracts
-Group shots or a single person
-Full color or black and white
-You are only limited by your imagination!

Photographs will be voted on by the USG community via our USG Facebook page. Each "like" counts as one vote, and the contestant with the most liked photo in our Facebook album will receive a Kindle Fire. All you have to do is vote! For every “like,” a $1 contribution will be made toward the USG Community Outreach Arts Scholarship fund, up to $500. Two other award recipients will receive special prizes related to technology.

The Fine Print

Winning photographs will be displayed in the Green Grove Café, so entries must be able to accommodate an 11 X 14” display size. 3300px X 4200px is ideal, but please submit a minimum of 2200px X 2800px.

Photographs must be submitted before 3pm on March 28, 2014 to rhovatte@umd.edu. Please include your name, program, and academic status (junior, senior, graduate student). You also need to include a sentence on why your subject is special to you and how they reflect the values of character, courage and commitment.

Voting will take place March 28 – April 11th online at facebook.com/UatShadyGrove, and the winner will be announced on April 14, 2014.

You must be a current student to enter this contest. All photos submitted become property of USG and can be used at a later date to promote USG or similar events.
