Want to work with the world’s largest biomedical library while earning credit for your degree? Interested in finding ways to connect people to health information? Want to delve into the power of Facebook, Twitter and other forms of social media? Then apply for a virtual internship with the National Library of Medicine (NLM). These unpaid internships will allow you to learn new skills, gain hands-on insights into working in the health information field and develop leadership qualities.

NLM in partnership with USG is offering students an internship position for the spring 2016 semester focusing on creating a social media campaign for MedlinePlus. A more detailed description of the position can be found below. You can receive credit for this internship by working with your program director or a professor from your program.

Applications for this internship are due January 8th, 2016. Selected candidates will be notified mid-January, and the internship will start the last week of January.

To apply for an internship position, follow these steps:

• Read over the internship position description.

• Get approval from your program director, a professor or your academic advisor for the internship position(s) that interests you before starting to work on the application.

• Fill out the application form.

• Write a cover letter (see application form for details).

• Prepare your resume.

• Obtain an unofficial copy of your transcript.

• Assemble all of your application materials. Scan the materials and e-mail them to eharring@umd.edu. Alternatively, you can drop them off or mail them to the Priddy Library at the following address:
