Susan CallahanSelected for its creativity and maximum use of local ingredients, Chef Susan Callahan's whimsical root beer float bars dessert was featured as part of Governor Martin O'Malley's cook out on July 16 to launch this year's statewide Buy Local Challenge Week, July 18-26.

Chef Callahan, who teaches Hotel Restaurant Management at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore at the Universities at Shady Grove (USG), teamed up with local producers to submit the recipe for the kick-off event, which challenged Marylanders to eat at least one locally grown, made or harvested product each day during the week. Chef Callahan also demonstrated the recipe on WUSA Channel 9's Morning News.
