From the local workforce to the global marketplace, organizations are in need of highly skilled professionals that are trained to care for their most valuable resource – information! The University of Maryland, College Park's iSchool (College of Information Studies) will meet this challenge head on as it prepares to expand its Master of Information Management (MIM) Program to the Universities at Shady Grove (USG) in Fall 2011.

The MIM program focuses on ways information and technology can be best organized, implemented and managed to benefit end users. The curriculum combines elements of information science, computing, and management to equip professionals with the expertise and vital decision-making skills required to manage the growing information needs of private and public organizations.

“We are pleased to offer the Master of Information Management program at USG and expand our excellent partnership with the University of Maryland, College Park's iSchool,” said Stewart Edelstein, Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, University System of Maryland and Executive Director at USG. “Professionals with the skills to manage information will have access to a wide range of rewarding career opportunities in our region’s growing knowledge-based economy".

The MIM program takes a cross-disciplinary approach that connects learning experiences to real-world settings through projects carried out in real organizations. Students enrolled in the MIM program at USG will have the opportunity bridge the world of theory and practice while immersed in the expanding technological hub of the I-270 corridor, only miles from Washington, DC, and Northern Virginia’s Dulles corridor.

UMCP's iSchool, ranked 10th in the nation by U.S. News and World Report, has offered the MIM program at the College Park campus since 2003. Graduates have pursued opportunities as project managers, user experience specialists, and information systems developers, among other critical information positions. MIM students come from a wide variety of backgrounds, both technical and non-technical. At USG courses will be scheduled in the evenings to accommodate working individuals, and are taught by highly qualified researchers and practitioners.
