Students Engaged in Public Health (SEIPH) raised $4700 at the inaugural “Stroll for Healthy Babies” charity event at the Universities at Shady Grove on Saturday, November 12, to benefit the African American Health Program’s infant mortality reduction project, SMILE (Start More Infants Living Equally-Healthy).

The event was a family-friendly 2K walk and included free health information and screenings related to overall wellness, child wellness, and maternal wellness.

“The African American Health Program is extremely humbled by the members of the Students Engaged in Public Health’s passion for eliminating infant mortality in Montgomery County,” said Darlene Coles, RN, MBA, Project Director, The African American Health Program. “We are grateful that this passionate group of students chose to make us the recipients of their first annual 2K Stroll-Walk.”

SMILE provides nursing and case-management services to at-risk families in Montgomery County. SEIPH is an organization of University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP) Public Health Sciences students at USG.

“Stroll for Healthy Babies” was supported by the University of Maryland School of Public Health and Shady Grove Adventist Hospital.
