Under the leadership of Cynthia L. Davis, President of the Shady Grove Social Work Student Association, SG SWSA partnered with Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana for a Katrina Holiday Fundraiser, during the week of December 12th -16th. This fundraising effort was immensely successful as students; staff and faculty at the Shady Grove Center contributed generously with contributions totaling $952.00. Officers of SG SWSA purchased gift cards from Target, which were sent to Southern University to ensure that some of the families affected by hurricane Katrina might have a brighter holiday season.

On Monday December 19th, Shady Grove Social Work Student Association (SG SWSA) the presented checks, totally $370.00 to the Stepping Stones Shelter in Rockville. The checks were the accumulation of donations from the Homeless Walk bake sale at the Shady Grove Center that was held on November 16th and 17th.
