The Montgomery County Business Roundtable Division hosted more 900 high-school juniors at the 2012 Young Professionals Conference, held at the Universities at Shady Grove on March 22. The annual conference is an opportunity for students enrolled in Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Career and Technology Education’s (CTE) Career Pathway Programs to explore future career choices, connect classroom lessons to real situations, and learn what it is like in the business world.
The conference provides a unique opportunity for students to interact with professionals in their fields through seminars and discussion, and to gain an understanding of the real-world applications associated with their pathway programs. Twenty-five area employers participated in the event including Human Genome Sciences, Lockheed Martin, Sodexo, Booz Allen Hamilton, and Deloitte.
Career and Technology Education provides a foundation of skills that enables high school graduates to be gainfully employed—either fulltime or while in college. Participating students are enrolled in one of eleven career-cluster high school programs:
- Academy of Finance
- Advanced Engineering, Project Lead the Way
- Academy of Hospitality & Tourism/Hospitality Management
