Martin Mann is a Staff Sergeant in the US Army Reserve and a recent graduate of UMBC's Social Work program at The Universities at Shady Grove (USG). Before completing his bachelor's degree, he served two deployments, one in Iraq as a combat medic and one in Afghanistan for 18 months between his junior and senior years.
Martin was selected as a student representative for the University System of Maryland at an event celebrating the Leadership of William E. "Brit" Kirwan in Higher Education on April 18, 2015. Speaking from his experience as a non-traditional student, Martin delivered an inspirational speech on the importance of overcoming challenges and earning his bachelor's degree.
