Several of Ms. Counihan's friends and her family will attend. Mr. Gene Counihan, who has established a scholarship in his daughter's name, played a key role in founding the Universities at Shady Grove and was the first chair of its Board of Advisors.

BACKGROUND:

Ms. Counihan was a teacher at Patuxent Valley Middle School in Howard County when she died in January, 2005, of heart failure at the age of 24. "The Book Collection is a fitting tribute to her," notes Dr. Roberta Strosnider, professor of education and program director for the Towson University program in special education at USG. "She was enthusiastic about children's learning and she especially liked to use children's literature in her lessons."
