The Universities at Shady Grove (USG), University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP), Montgomery College (MC) and the Bethesda chapter of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA Bethesda) hosted a “speed mentoring event” for AFCEA Bethesda scholarship recipients on October 4th at USG.

During the event, more than 20 scholarship recipients from UMCP, UMCP at USG, and MC were introduced to local information technology professionals in a round-robin format to discuss their education and career goals. In each 5-minute round, students were able to seek advice about education plans, career objectives and expectations, how to evaluate employment opportunities, and how to build a career in the public sector.

Mentors participated from several area employers, including Lockheed Martin Information Systems & Global Solutions, National Institutes of Health, and Intervise.

The Bethesda chapter of AFCEA is a non-profit organization that fosters government-industry relationships and facilitates the exchange of ideas about communications, intelligence, imaging, and information systems technologies. The group is a strong partner to USG, UMCP, and MC, providing scholarship support annually for students enrolled in engineering, biotechnology, science, computer science and other technology-related degree programs.
