More than 300 scholarship recipients and the local organizations and individuals who contributed to 53 scholarship funds were honored during the Universities at Shady Grove’s (USG) annual Scholarship and Donor Recognition Luncheon on November 13, 2015.

“Many of our students face major challenges when it comes to financing their education,” said Dr. Stewart Edelstein, executive director of The Universities of Shady Grove and associate vice chancellor for the University System of Maryland. “With such great competition today for scarce federal aid and other forms of tuition assistance, the support we receive from private individuals, businesses and other organizations for USG scholarships has become absolutely critical in helping to ensure that many more students will be able to achieve their dream of completing their college education. We cannot thank our donors enough for their generosity and belief in the amazing students we serve at USG.”

Students who attend USG are enrolled in various academic programs from nine state universities within the University System of Maryland. Two scholarship recipients spoke at this year’s luncheon: Vivian Urzua, University of Maryland, College Park, Robert H. Smith School of Business and Sonny Bell, Towson University, Elementary Education/Special Education program. The Keynote speaker was Clark Kendall, President & Founder of Kendall Capital Management and the MC was Jay Clarke, USG Board of Advisors member and Senior Vice President, Supply Chain Operations, Total Wine & More.

It was another record breaking year with over $1,000,000 USG scholarship aid awarded for the Fall 2015 semester. Scholarships were presented as a result of donations from individuals and organizations, including:
