The Universities at Shady Grove’s (USG) Tenth Annual Scholarship and Donor Recognition Luncheon was held on Friday, November 15, 2019. More than 300 scholarship recipients and donors were honored. The scholarships are created with contributions from private donors including the USG Board of Advisors, local businesses, foundations, community organizations and individual donors. More than 500 scholarships are awarded to student annually, equaling 52% of applications received.

“Many of our students face major challenges when it comes to financing their education,” said Dr. Stewart Edelstein, executive director of The Universities of Shady Grove and Associate Vice Chancellor for the University System of Maryland. “With such great competition today for scarce federal aid and other forms of tuition assistance, the support we receive from private individuals, businesses and other organizations for USG scholarships has become absolutely critical in helping to ensure that many more students will be able to achieve their dream of completing their college education. We cannot thank our donors enough for their generosity and belief in the amazing students we serve at USG.”

USG Board of Advisors Vice-Chair, Shirley Brandman, welcomed everyone to the event and gave the opening remarks. The student speaker was Millicent "Milly" Sasu from the University of Maryland, College Park criminology and criminal justice program at USG. The alumni speaker was Anne Morris, a graduate from the University of Maryland, Baltimore's School of Nursing at USG. USG Executive Director, Dr. Stewart Edelstein, provided closing remarks.
