2024 Board of Advisors Kendall Service Award Winners

Former USM Regent and USG Board of Advisors (BOA) member Cliff Kendall and his wife Camille have generously established annual awards that recognize faculty, program leaders, and staff who have provided outstanding support to students, as well as staff who have demonstrated exemplary service to the USG community.

Congratulations to this year's five esteemed BOA Kendall Service Award winners for 2024:

Outstanding Program Leadership

Luke Glasgow

University of Maryland, College Park
Robert H. Smith School of Business Program
 
Luke Glasgow is the director at the Shady Grove campus and joined the Smith School of Business in 2000. Glasgow manages the undergraduate programs, serves as academic advisor for accounting majors, and works closely with the admissions office and recruits transfer students for the Robert H. Smith School of Business undergraduate programs. Luke seeks to motivate and encourage each student to invest themselves fully in the Smith School and network and enjoys the cohort model program at Shady Grove where students get to know their classmates well and graduate with lifelong friends along with their business degree. Prior to joining the Smith School, Luke worked for the University of Maryland’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions and the Dept. of Intercollegiate Athletics. Luke has spent his career in higher education and student/academic services. He received an M.S. in Higher Education Administration from the Johns Hopkins University and a bachelor's degree from the University of Baltimore. While away from the office, Luke enjoys spending time with his wife and family. He is a sports enthusiast who enjoys swimming, cycling, and he loves cheering for the Terps and the Baltimore Orioles and Baltimore Ravens.

Chathurika Weerasinghe, RDH MSDH

School of Dentistry

Chathurika Weerasinghe, Clinical Assistant Professor received an associate’s degree in dental hygiene from Allegany College of Maryland in 2016, a bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene from the University of Maryland, Baltimore School of Dentistry (UMSOD) in 2018, and a master’s degree in dental hygiene at University of Bridgeport, Fones School of Dental Hygiene in 2021 Before joining the University of Maryland, Baltimore School of Dentistry (UMSOD), Chathurika served as faculty at Fortis College in Landover, Maryland teaching courses in Community Oral Health, Oral Health Education, Dental Hygiene Clinic, and Periodontology I/ II. She participated in Advanced Dental Hygiene Clinical Courses, and Head/Neck Anatomy. Chathurika’s roles at the UMSOD are clinical and didactic teaching at our Universities on the Shady Grove campus. Awards and Service: Circle of Excellence Award at Fortis College 2022 President: Montgomery County Dental Hygiene Association 2020- present Chair Community Outreach and Education Montgomery County Dental Hygiene Association 2018-2020. Dental Hygiene Degree Completion Leadership Award.

 

Excellence in Teaching

Ilse Genovese

University of Maryland, College Park
Communication Program

Ilse Genovese is a lecturer in the Department of Communication through the University of Maryland, College Park at USG where she has been teaching undergraduate courses in Message Design and Digital Imaging since the fall of 2020. She earned her M.A. in Integrated Design from the University of Baltimore in 2021 and a B.A. in Communication from the University of Maryland in 2016. She also has an M.A. in Interpreting and Translation (English & German) from the Czech Republic. She has extensive working experience in editorial graphic design, and her research interests encompass multimedia content design and user experience.

Andrew Yager

The Universities at Shady Grove
Priddy Library

Andrew Yager is the Access Services Manager for the Universities at Shady Grove's Priddy Library.  He is the primary contact for all issues pertaining to Circulation, Course Reserves, Holds/ILL, and fines.  Questions about the physical collection, acquisitions, and cataloging can also be addressed to him.

Andrew has worked in academic libraries for more than fifteen years, and prior to joining USG was the Circulation Manager at Towson University's Albert S. Cook Library. He has served as co-chair of the University System of Maryland and Affiliated Institutions' (USMAI) Access Services Committee since 2019, and a co-convener of the ACRL Access Services Interest Group since 2023.  He has also presented at local, regional, and national conferences on Priddy Library's professional development program for student employees.

He received his Master's in Library and Information Science from the University of Maryland, in College Park, MD, and a Bachelor of Arts from Franklin & Marshall College, in Lancaster, PA, with a double-major in English literature and history.

Jane A. Briggs

The Universities at Shady Grove
Facilities and Planning

Jane Briggs, LEED AP joined the Universities at Shady Grove (USG) as the Director of Facilities and Planning in 2013. Jane has over 35 years of experience working in design, construction, and facilities management. After graduating from Georgia Tech with a degree in architecture she worked for various architecture firms for 15 years before joining the University of Maryland College Park. She served as a Project Manager overseeing design and construction for Capital Projects and the Vice President of Administration and Finance, Real Estate office.

In Jane’s current role, she leads the Office of Facilities and Planning. Responsibilities include oversight of all facilities operations, including work orders and preventive maintenance, service contracts, energy management, planning, regulatory compliance, public safety, budget, campus renovations, and capital projects. Jane played a lead role representing USG as the liaison between USG stakeholders, academic partners, design team, and the construction management team during the design and construction of the Biomedical Science and Engineering (BSE) facility.
