Virtual Kendall Service Awards Presentation

This year's award presentation was virtual due to the COVID-19 crisis. Guests tuned in on Thursday, June 18th via Zoom to watch as we honored this year's three  Kendall Service Award winners. A recording of the live presentation can be found below.
 

 

2020 Kendall Service Award Winners

The Kendall Service Awards began with former USM Regent and USG Board of Advisors member Cliff Kendall and his wife Camille who generously established three annual awards to recognize faculty, program directors and staff who have performed exceptionally in supporting student success at USG.

This year’s three esteemed Kendall Service Award winners are:

Dr. Hadiya Woodham

Dr. Woodham earned a B.S. in Cell Biology and Biochemistry from Bucknell University (1998), a Ph.D. in Biology from Johns Hopkins University (2004), and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (2007). Her graduate thesis and postdoctoral fellowship work centered on membrane trafficking and actin cytoskeleton organization in the budding yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae.  Her passion for teaching began in graduate school when she was awarded a Dean’s Teaching Fellowship to design and teach a novel undergraduate seminar related to her thesis work on endocytosis. During her postdoctoral fellowship, Dr. Woodham continued to pursue teaching, serving as an adjunct professor in the Biology Department at Montgomery College. She joined the Biology Department at the College Park campus in August 2011, where she was appointed as a Lecturer.  In this capacity, she served as Academic Advisor for the Physiology and Neurobiology specialization and Laboratory Coordinator for both Introductory (BSCI330) and Advanced (BSCI421) Cell Biology laboratory courses.  In addition to lab coordinating, Dr. Woodham taught BSCI330 and an upper level seminar entitled, Cellular Mechanisms of Aging and Disease. She was appointed Program Director of the Biological Sciences program at Shady Grove in July 2018.

Lt. Shawn Eastman

Criminology and Criminal Justice

Shawn Eastman has been a law enforcement officer in Maryland since 1997. He currently serves as the Special Operations Bureau Lieutenant with the Gaithersburg Police Department in Maryland. He has served in patrol, investigations, and in plainclothes capacities. He is a certified firearms, physical fitness and CPR instructor, has earned a certificate in Force Science, is a certified UFED examiner and possesses an advanced certification in Voice Stress Analysis. He routinely provides training in gang violence, use of force, patrol procedures, and other similar topics. Shawn completed his Master of Arts degree in Human Sciences from Hood College. Shawn has been an adjunct professor since 2007 and was awarded the Kendall Service Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2014.

Iris Schauerman serves as a Coordinator CSEF. Iris earned an A.A.S degree in Mental Health from Montgomery College before transferring to the University of Maryland, College Park to obtain a B.S. in Psychology with a concentration in Neuroscience as well as a B.A. in Anthropology. Knowing that her passion laid in education and helping underrepresented students, Iris obtained her Masters in Education from Johns Hopkins University.
