Program Overview
The Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology at the Universities of Shady Grove (USG) is a program that offers professional preparation for individuals wishing to become psychologists and/ or counselors in non-K-12 school settings, such as community mental health facilities, universities, etc. This program places heavy emphasis on interpersonal and helping relationships among youth and adults that require considerable commitment on the part of the student. Students in this program are well-prepared to pursue doctoral studies or serve as master level professionals. Students in the program must complete 48 semester hours, a practicum and internship (700 hours) placement, write a research paper and pass a qualifying examination. Students who enroll in an additional 12 hours to satisfy the 60 credit hours required for licensure can complete a specialization or professional certification. An additional 300 hours for internship are required for licensure.
