The University of Baltimore offers the B.S. in Health Management at the Universities at Shady Grove in a convenient, weekend format.
This Association of University Programs in Health Administration-certified program is designed to prepare you for a professional career in health systems management. If you have a degree in an allied health field—nursing, radiology, physical therapy assisting and others, this program is designed to assist you in transitioning into a management position.
You'll gain an awareness of the interplay of social, political, economic, technological, cultural and environmental factors of health services management and administration.
The curriculum includes courses in accounting, health-care management, epidemiology, health-care law, risk management, health policy and a variety of upper-level health management courses.
WHY STUDY HEALTH MANAGEMENT?
Montgomery County and the D.C. metropolitan area are dealing with health-care issues such as expanding access to affordable health care, reducing the cost of prescription drugs for seniors, providing coverage for low-income or uninsured children and eliminating health disparities among minority residents. To deal with these issues, health-care institutions will have to have a highly educated workforce that can manage change in a turbulent environment. This program will provide students with the necessary knowledge and skills to carry out administrative functions within the diverse health-care organizations found in the area.
HOW DOES THE PROGRAM WORK?
Classes are offered Saturdays in 10-week sessions specifically with working professionals in mind. The program can be completed through a combination of weekend courses and online courses.
