UMBC's Bachelor of Arts in History program at The Universities at Shady Grove offers students an opportunity to develop analytical and communication skills and serves to broaden perspectives on the past. With an emphasis on public history, policy history and international historical perspectives, the program is designed to encourage the development of good writing and research skills in conjunction with innovative and critical thinking. All our students are encouraged to engage in active learning and research experiences in the many museums, historical societies and government agencies in the Washington-Baltimore metropolitan area.
Both the campus and my coursework have helped to promote a sense of cultural awareness, open mindedness, and critical thinking. I value the diversity of the student body, which has allowed me to interact with fellow students of various creeds, cultures, and age groups.
