Program Overview
The University of Maryland, College Park offers a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology & Criminal Justice (CCJS) at the Universities at Shady Grove in Rockville, Maryland. Students transfer into this program after completing their freshman and sophomore coursework (usually at a community college) to complete their junior and senior years with the option to attend full-time or part-time. In additional to fundamental criminology and criminal justice studies, the CCJS program offers you the opportunity to personalize your educational experience with our career-focused elective courses. Course clusters are designed to give you optional focus points within the degree.
Upon completion of this program, students are awarded a University of Maryland, College Park B.A. degree.
Minor in Criminal Justice
The Minor in Criminal Justice offers non-CCJS majors from the University of Maryland, College Park at Shady Grove the opportunity to learn more about the criminal justice system and the challenges it faces. Students who complete the minor will have a better understanding of how the criminal justice system operates (including police, courts, and corrections) and its strengths and weaknesses. Students will also have the opportunity to be exposed to emerging topics such as cyber forensics, CSI, homeland security, victim advocacy, and human trafficking.
