The USG InfoSci Ambassador Program serves to provide students with the opportunity to enhance their leadership skills, as well as engage, excite, and attract prospective and incoming students. Students Ambassadors will be able to share their experiences in the InfoSci Program at Shady Grove to students, their families, and their community members, while also upholding and practicing the iSchool's core values.

Goals and Duties 

The goal of the USG InfoSci Ambassador Program is for current students to represent the program to both prospective and incoming students by providing a student's perspective in relevant experiences within the program and the Information Science field as a whole. As such, Ambassadors will be expected to perform the following tasks:

  • Assist with event planning and organization
  • Respond to general student inquiries via email
  • Attend Information Sessions at Montgomery College campuses
  • Attend on-campus recruiting events and open houses
  • Attend all InfoSci workshops and events
  • Serve as InfoSci Orientation Leaders, wherein they will:
    • Assist with student registration
    • Answer general questions
    • Represent the InfoSci program to incoming students
    • Guide a student-led session to speak on their experiences in the program and become acquainted with incoming students
    • Be responsible for organizing and running the ice-breaker activity
  • Assist with managing program social media (Facebook and Instagram) by sharing stories, photos, and events
  • Wear InfoSci Ambassador Program t-shirts at all recruitment events
  • Administrative support in the form of outreach support and other duties as assigned
  • Attend weekly, one-hour meeting with Ambassador Program Coordinator

eligibility criteria

The InfoSci Ambassador Program is best suited to students who have demonstrated strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills both in and out of the classroom. Strong candidates will meet the following criteria:

  • 3.0 cumulative program GPA
  • Must be able to commit to at least 10 hours per week
  • Must be a current InfoSci at Shady Grove student
  • Exhibit leadership, dependability, initiative, discipline, and enthusiasm
  • Strong verbal and oral communication skills
  • Some evenings and weekends may be required
