I found out about The Universities at Shady Grove (USG) when I was searching for nursing programs in the area. I was looking for a smaller campus to complete my studies having already had the experience of living on a big campus. I chose to complete my nursing degree at The University of Maryland School of Nursing at USG because of the curriculum, ranking, cost and location.

A few other reasons I chose to complete my program at USG:

  • Suburban location as opposed to the more urban Baltimore campus
  • #6 Nursing program in the nation only 20 minutes away from my home
  • Very reasonable cost compared to other universities
  • Many opportunities to help prepare students for their careers

The Career and Internship Services Center (CISC) gives students guidance with resume/cover letter writing, interview preparation, and salary negotiations. The Center for Academic Services (CAS) helps students study more efficiently and manage their time. Finally, there are career specific professional groups that students are encouraged to join in advocating for their profession. While at USG, I joined the National Student Nursing Association (NSNA) as well as the University of Maryland Association of Nursing Students (UMANS). USG also offers many social events students can partake in, such as the CISC Etiquette Dinner to learn about networking and proper dining etiquette.

After graduation, I would like to work for a few years in the nursing profession and then earn my Doctorate in Family Nurse Practitioner. My ultimate goal would be working overseas as a Foreign Service Nurse Practitioner.
