More than 300 scholarship recipients and donors were honored during the Universities at Shady Grove’s (USG) annual Scholarship and Donor Recognition Luncheon on November 17, 2017. Organizations and individuals donated to more than 70 scholarship funds.
“Many of our students face major challenges when it comes to financing their education,” said Dr. Stewart Edelstein, executive director of The Universities of Shady Grove and Associate Vice Chancellor for the University System of Maryland. “With such great competition today for scarce federal aid and other forms of tuition assistance, the support we receive from private individuals, businesses and other organizations for USG scholarships has become absolutely critical in helping to ensure that many more students will be able to achieve their dream of completing their college education. We cannot thank our donors enough for their generosity and belief in the amazing students we serve at USG.”
Students who attend USG are enrolled in various academic programs from nine state universities within the University System of Maryland. Two scholarship recipients spoke at this year’s luncheon: Shanice Morris, University of Maryland School of Social Work and Gabriela Herrera, University of Maryland School of Nursing. The Keynote speaker was Kevin Beverly, President & CEO of Social & Scientific Systems, Inc. and member of the USG Board of Advisors and the MC was Belinda Coleman, President & CEO of The Coleman Group and a member of the USG Board of Advisors.
