USG ID Card FAQs

USG is committed to creating and maintaining an environment in which all persons that participate in USG programs and activities, perform work, or provide services can learn and work together in a safe and secure environment.

Do I really need to get a USG ID card?
All students, faculty, and staff are required to obtain and carry a USG ID card any time they are on campus. The majority of IT, facility, and student services will be restricted to students, staff, and faculty that have a valid USG ID. 

When I get a new USG ID card will my old one still work?
No, new USG ID cards will invalidate old USG ID cards. USG ID cards issued to the University of Maryland, College Park students, faculty, and staff will also invalidate home campus UMCP ID cards.

If I am teaching at USG for one semester do I need a USG ID?
Visiting Partner Faculty are required to obtain a USG ID card, with the exception of the University of Maryland, College Park faculty who have a temporary teaching assignment at USG but are primarily located on the College Park campus. Due to data system overlap, these faculty may continue to utilize their UMCP ID card while on the USG campus.

If I am only taking classes here for one semester, do I need a USG ID?
Visiting students are required to obtain a USG ID card, with the exception of students enrolled in a program on the University of Maryland, College Park campus. Due to data system overlap, these students may continue to utilize their UMCP ID card while on the USG campus.

What do I do if I am a Faculty member who teaches for multiple USG partner institutions?
Only one USG ID card can be created per person. It is up to the faculty member to indicate their “primary” institution and a corresponding USG ID card will be created.

What if I have a problem with my USG ID?
Any student, faculty, or staff member that has an issue with their USG ID card will be referred to the Center for Student Engagement and Financial Resources for assistance.

What if I am taking classes at USG through more than one USM institution?
Only one USG ID card can be created per person. It is up to the student to indicate their “primary” institution and a corresponding USG ID card can be created.

What if I am teaching and taking classes at USG?
Faculty or Staff who are taking courses at USG should be assigned a USG Faculty/Staff ID card. In some cases, the program that you are taking classes with may require you to obtain a home campus student ID card as part of their policy.

Do alumni need a USG ID?
Students who have graduated from a program located at USG may be eligible for services from the Career and Internship Services Center, however, they are not eligible to obtain a USG ID.

Do Community visitors and outside conference and event, attendees need an ID?
Patrons who are utilizing conference facilities as part of a service contract with the USG Office of Conference and Events are not able to obtain a USG ID.

What USG resources do I need a USG ID card to access?

  • Computer labs
  • All Student & Academic Services Centers require USG ID's in order to obtain services. This includes the Center for Academic Success, Center for Student Engagement and Financial Resources, Career & Internship Services Center, Center for Counseling and Consultation, and the Center for Recruitment and Transfer Access
  • Parking permits 
  • Library “Night Owls”
  • Campus Recreation Center
  • Student study rooms
  • Bookstore buyback
  • Self-service copy
  • Campus events and workshops
  • Services offered by the Office of Information Technology: laptops loan programs, secure Wi-Fi access, poster printing, helpdesk support, video camera, and digital camera services
  • Proctoring services
  • Access to the Veteran’s Lounge
  • Reservation of campus facilities (Gooseneck field, Ping Pong Room, etc.)
