MSW Program Overview
Welcome to the University of Maryland School of Social Work, one of the nation’s largest and most respected schools of social work.  The Master of Social Work is a 60-credit degree that can be earned in two, three, or four years.  The MSW program prepares students to become licensed in any state to practice social work as a MSW graduate.  The University of Maryland School of Social Work offers the MSW program in two locations – our main campus in Baltimore City and an off-campus program at The Universities at Shady Grove in Rockville, Maryland.

MSW Program at the Universities at Shady Grove (USG)
At USG, we offer the complete MSW degree program for students interested in the Clinical Concentration. Students in this concentration will develop assessment and intervention skills to work with families, youth, and adults in mental health, health care, substance abuse, child welfare, and educational settings.

One of the distinctive components of the MSW program is the field placement experience where students practice and refine skills learned in class.  For MSW students at USG, field placement opportunities are available in Montgomery, Prince George's, and Frederick Counties, and the District of Columbia.

For additional information about the USG program please visit our FAQ page.

I truly appreciate the combination of our academic courses and field work. It is a unique experience to be able to learn about a theory or a skill and then practice it out in the real world setting. This type of learning experience makes me feel prepared and excited to start my career as a clinical social worker.
