The Bachelor of Science in Public Health Science at the Universities at Shady Grove (USG) consists of 120 credit hours.  Effective Fall 2022, for newly matriculated students, a maximum of 70 credits from 2-year institutions can be applied to degree requirements at UMD. No more than 90 credits can be applied to degree requirements from a combination of 2-year institutions, 4-year institutions and prior learning credits. Students are required to complete at least their final 30 credits at UMD to earn a degree. All undergraduate coursework at USG begins at the junior level.

The remaining credits can be completed in 4 full-time semesters or on a part-time basis with classes offered Monday through Thursday and some evening classes. There is a recommended sequence for completing the Public Health Science bachelor’s degree that considers a student’s year in the program in course scheduling.

To be admitted to the Public Health Science program at USG, students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better for all college level work and earned a C- or better in all 100- and 200-level Public Health Science pre-requisite requirements. It is recommended that students earn an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree or have completed all General Education requirements.

Students transferring from another institution should view the Transfer Course Evaluation Database to evaluate their prerequisite credits.
