Internships and Service-Learning Opportunities
The Shriver Center serves as a national leader in applied learning, civic engagement, and community-based service delivery programs. The Shriver Center is now operating at The Universities at Shady Grove, offering UMBC students resume help as well as assistance in locating internships and service-learning placements. Students link academic study to professional practice and service to the community.
Students attending classes at Shady Grove through UMBC may schedule an appointment with the Shriver Center at UMBC-Shady Grove by e-mailing Ray Regimbal at regimbal@umbc.edu for help with resumes and cover letters. We look forward to helping Shady Grove students link academic study to professional practice and service to the community. Students are not limited to finding internships through UMBCworks, the university's career and internship database. All ideas will be considered. Students are able to locate internships on their own, if desired.
UMBC students have the opportunity to step outside the boundaries of the classroom and experience the real world through internships and service-learning opportunities. In addition to gaining valuable work experience, many students may also receive three upper-level credits in their major.
Students participating in the internship program are required to enroll in an intern practicum in which they set learning goals as well as put their experience into context by completing workshops and evaluations.
For more information or to schedule an appointment, contact Ray Regimbal, Assistant Director of Internships and Service-Learning, at regimbal@umbc.edu.
