In addition to scholarships, USM Regent and former USG Board of Advisors member Cliff Kendall and his wife Camille have generously established two annual awards that recognize faculty and staff who have performed exceptionally in supporting student success at the Universities at Shady Grove. To support the Kendall's generosity and their recognition of the impact faculty and staff have on supporting students here at USG, the USG Board of Advisors is establishing the Kendall Excellence in Teaching and Outstanding Service to Students Awards.
2010-2011 The Excellence in Teaching Award was presented to Judy Streeter, Program Director, University of Maryland Eastern Shore Hospitality and Restaurant Management at USG. The Outstanding Service to Students Award was presented to Gloria Kalotra, Senior Coordinator for Student Development in the Office of Student Services. Read more about the winners below.
Judith Streeter - Excellence in Teaching Award
Program Director, Hotel and Restaurant Management
University of Maryland Eastern Shore
Judith Streeter is the Program Director of Hotel and Restaurant Management for UMES, a position she has held for five years.
Prior to beginning her “retirement career” in education she spent over 31 years in management and leadership positions in the hospitality industry. She joined Marriott in 1979 and served in various management roles across the country and headquarters; she retired as senior vice president for human resources. For one year she taught at James Madison University. “I knew for more than a decade that I wanted to teach at the college level and help prepare students for successful careers in the hospitality business. USG is ideal, the students are wonderful and every day I feel so fortunate to have this wonderful opportunity to serve.”
Judy holds a bachelor’s degree in hotel and restaurant administration from the University of Massachusetts, and a master’s degree in organization development from Loyola University of Chicago.
Gloria Kalotra - Outstanding Service to Students Award
Senior Coordinator, Office of Student Services

Gloria Kalotra is the Senior Coordinator for Student Development in the Office of Student Services at USG. Gloria joined the USG family in 2005, and has impacted the USG Community with her exceptional service to students, faculty, and staff. Along with her many duties as a Senior Coordinator, Gloria is in charge of coordinating scholarships and financial aid awareness on campus, new student orientation, inter-institutional registration, and Alumni programming. She is known for her dedication and determination in helping students and going above and beyond. Quoting Gloria, “Working with USG students is one of the most rewarding experiences that I have ever had! USG students are talented, intelligent, and passionate about getting their education. I love helping students and providing them with resources to give them the opportunity to fulfill their dreams.”
Gloria was born and raised in the Philippines and came to the United Stated in 1991. She received her undergraduate degree from Mary Baldwin College and is currently a graduate student with the University of Maryland University College. A resident of Germantown, Gloria and her husband just celebrated their second wedding anniversary! Gloria is honored and grateful for this prestigious award!
