Service to Students Award
Mauricio Mantilla, Service Desk Manager, Office of Information Technology, USG
Mauricio has been employed at the Universities at Shady Grove for over a decade, first as a student worker in the IT department, then as a member of the Facilities technical support staff, and later returning to the IT Department as the Evening Help Desk Supervisor before accepting his current roles as the IT Service Desk Manager. He has also notably received the Peer-to-Peer Award and Spotlight Award through the Employee Recognition Program run by USG Human Resources.
Program Director of the Year Award
Andrew Nolan, Program Director, History, University of Maryland, Baltimore County
Dr. Nolan's work at UMBC centers on developing the History B.A. program at Shady Grove, which sheperds students through the third-and fourth-years of their college careers and provides them with the UMBC history degree grounded in critical thinking, analytical reading, and clear writing. He also continues to research his next project, exploring popular representations of human evolution -- and dinosaurs -- in U.S. culture.
Excellence in Teaching Award
Bob Coleman, Communications, University of Maryland, College Park
Bob retired from the federal government in 2002, with 35 years as an illustrator, graphic designer and art director. Since the fall 2007 semester, he has been an instructor in the visual communication program in the Communication Department at the University of Maryland. For the last few years, he has taught Digital Media, Digital Imaging and Web Design exclusively at the Shady Grove campus.
