Spring 2012 New Student Orientation: Thursday, January 12, 2012
New Student Orientation is for all incoming juniors and seniors and will be held on the date(s) above from 8:30am-5:00pm. All newly admitted students are encouraged to attend. If you have not already registered for the day, please contact Gloria Kalotra in the Office of student services at gkalotra@umd.edu or 301-738-6023 for more information.
In the case of inclement weather, New Student Orientation will be rescheduled on Tuesday, January 17, 2012. USG campus delays or closures will be announced on local news stations and will also be announced on our web site. Persons may also call our main phone line at 301-738-6000 for recorded information regarding delays and closures. If the USG campus is closed on any of the dates above, New Student Orientation activities will be cancelled for that day.
Overview
New Student Orientation is a one-day event that all new students taking undergraduate daytime programs at USG are required to attend. At orientation, you will attend various workshops and breakout sessions related to various areas of USG. Such workshops include:
- Academic Advising
- Course Registration
- Financial Aid Counseling
- Student Services
- Student Clubs, Organizations, & Student Life Activities
- Computer Labs & Email Accounts
- Student Success Services
- Career Services
- Library Services
- Student ID Cards
- Teambuilding Exercises
- Scavenger Hunt
- Walking Tour of the Shady Grove Center
In addition to the day's events, you will have the chance to meet current students, your respective program staff, and USG center staff. We hope that the day helps you become better acquainted with the center, community, and services found here at USG.
Please note, the orientation dates are program-specific. There is limited space for each session and an RSVP is required. If you are unsure as to which orientation you should attend, please contact the Office of Student & Academic Services at USG for more information. Approximately two weeks before your orientation date, you will receive a packet of information in the mail with more information about the day's events.
