2012-2013 USG Representative to University System of Maryland Student Council - APPLY NOW!
You want to be a leader? You want to collaborate with your peers from other higher education institutions? You are ready to be a voice of Shady Grove students on the USM Student Council? Then this leadership position is for YOU!
The University System of Maryland Student Council (USMSC) is one of four councils established during the restructuring of higher education in Maryland in 1988 to provide advice to the Chancellor and the Board of Regents. The USMSC provides a vehicle to ensure that the System leadership is aware of student perspectives and responsive to student concerns and issues. Each degree-granting institution in the USM has two representatives to the Council. However, each institution has one vote at the Council.
The USMSC meets monthly throughout the school year, usually on Sundays; its meetings rotate among System campuses. Among the specific responsibilities of the USMSC is the recommendation to the Chancellor each year for transmittal to the Governor of a group of nominees for the position of USM Student Regent. The Council has also provided input on tuition policy, SAT score reporting, and academic advising among other issues.
The USMSC Representatives for USG will be obligated to attend monthly meetings and communicate issues and concerns with USG’s Student Council. The selected representatives will serve as legal members with pending voting rights.

Student Council is a student advocacy and advisory group which acts as a liaison between the students and administration of USG to communicate on behalf of the student population. The group also serves to identify and engage in activities which enhance the student experience and are supportive of the USG community at large.
